A SHORT HISTORY OF STONEHOUSE
NUMBER FIVE - CAMNETHAN STREET

The family of Thomas Sorbie and Ann Wilson lived at No. 40 for many years along with their nine children (First house down on the right hand side). Thomas, died in an tragic accident in the house on 28th May 1888.
From local paper the "Hamilton Advertiser" 2nd June 1888 on death of Thomas :

"Fatal accident - On Monday, a sad accident occurred to Thomas Sorbie,
weaver, Camnethan Street, Stonehouse. His head came
in violent contact with a ladder in his house, whereby
his skull was fractured, causing
death".
